Probationary (tenure-track) position in Solid Mechanics, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Western University, London, Ontario, Canada

 

Applications are invited for a Probationary (tenure-track) appointment in the area of solid mechanics. All specialties within the broadly defined area of solid mechanics will be considered, including:stress analysis, deformation and fracture mechanics, mechanics and manufacturing, mechanics and energy, mechanical properties of materials, vibration and control, and computational methods in solid mechanics, among others. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) effective July 1, 2017 or as negotiated.

 

Western Engineering seeks energetic and dynamic candidates who will be able to contribute to the teaching and research mission of the MME Department. Successful candidates will have completed a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in research, including evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, and be eligible for P.Eng. registration. The candidate will be expected to develop and lead an active, internationally recognized research program, attract external research funding, supervise graduate students, collaborate with Western faculty, and participate in other educational and professional activities including administrative duties. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach a variety of introductory and advanced mechanical engineering courses of interest to the Department including courses on mechanics of materials and mechanical properties of materials. He/she will also be strongly encouraged to build collaborations with other researchers in MME and in other departments and faculties across campus.
