Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Geographical Modeling and Spatial Analysis in the Department of Urban Planning and Design, to commence as soon as possible for three years.

 

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Geographical Information System, Quantitative Geography or a related field, with a strong track record in the following: refereed publications in geography, spatial analysis, urban studies/planning; advanced skills in GIS, spatial visualization and statistical analysis; and experience in co-authoring and managing competitive research grants.

 

This position is based in the Faculty of Architecture's Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning (CUSUP) under the HKUrbanLab. The appointee will report directly to the One Belt One Road (OBOR) team leader of CUSUP. CUSUP brings together researchers based around the world with expertise in a wide range of disciplines from urban planning to design, geography, and computing science. He/She will participate in multiple projects led by a team of the Faculty's OBOR research initiative, especially building and maintaining an OBOR database. His/Her primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to collection and analyses of OBOR data, preparation of scientific reports and journal articles for publication of research findings from the work in high-ranking journals in urban planning and geography. He/She will work collaboratively with other scholars and staff within the OBOR group to develop geospatial methods to analyze and model the dynamic urban evolution, in Asia particularly. He/She should have the ability to manage his/her own academic research and meet defined milestones on time. Understanding of spatiotemporal modeling and expertise in geo-statistics, GIS mapping, or equivalent are essential. He/She will be expected to follow and contribute to coding and data-management standards and to follow best practice in writing skills, including the draft of proposals and academic papers. He/She is also expected to start new projects on the basis of new funding.
