INL is seeking a high level qualified, motivated and experienced researcher to develop and optimise integrated chip level solutions for  molecular spectroscopic fingerprinting (optical spectroscopy, NMR)  applied to field analysis in precision farming (molecular analysis in fruits and leaves), and/or applications in the food industry (molecular fingerprinting in olive oil, wine, others).




Job Requirements and Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate is expected to lead the development of novel platforms (optical, magnetic) for molecular fingerprinting of compounds/molecules of interest. Existing programmes in this area at INL include integrated NMR spectroscopy for compound analysis in liquids, and an early stagecollaborative effort into the development of integrated micro-spectrometers for precision farming applications.  The researcher should have experience in working with interdisciplinary teams involving physicists, electrical engineers, chemists, food scientists.


Required Skills and Experience

-PhD in Physics, Electrical engineering, or fields related with micro-spectrometer/integrated NMR chip design/fabrication;

-Over 4 yearsof active research after PhD or experience in application of these devices into molecule fingerprinting for particular applications.Candidates with an exceptional CV but shorter research careers will also be considered;

-Previous hand-on experience in the development of integrated spectrometer systems is required;

-Candidates with additional know-how on electronics will be preferred;

-Previous participation in collaborative international research projects is valued.

-The candidate is expected to participate and have experience in strategic decisions, production of technical and scientific documentation and planning of projects;

-Applicants are also expected to have high quality publications in international journals and to be competitive in obtaining external research funding;

-Applicants with international mobility experience will be highly evaluated.


Personal Skills

Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and to meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills and experience in the dissemination of results to the scientific community are expected.

Capability of establishing collaborative ties with distinguished academic groups and relevant industry partners.



English is the working language of INL. Therefore, excellent communication skills in English are required.
