INL is seeking an experienced staff researcher to develop and participate in collaborative projects in the area of nanotechnologies used for water analysis and treatment whose main responsibility would be to use existing technologies and develop novel platforms and nanomaterials in straight collaboration with partners (academic and industrial) leading to the validation of the new methodologies vs established laboratory procedures where appropriate.

INL is presently participating in projects for development and validation of integrated platforms and solutions for in situ and (semi)automated water analysis. These platforms require complete solutions ranging from water sampling, sample treatment, bio-analyte recognition and detection, data transfer. and contaminant capture and concentration among others.

Capture and concentration of water contaminants for further analysis and decontamination is another field of ongoing funded research at INL. In these regards, NANO4ENVIRONMENT Research Unit got recently approved a Norte2020 project (NANO2WATER) where one of the goals is the utilisation of Nanoporous Materials, e.g. Organic Frameworks (OFs), Nanoclays and Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs), for the specific capture of target contaminants


Job Requirements and Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate is expected to join ongoing programmes at INL, and to develop new solutions increasing the portfolio of existing technologies for water analysis and treatment. 


Desired Skills and Experience

-PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applied Physics, or related technical fields;

-Over 10 years of active research after PhD in using diagnostic tools or nanomaterials for water analysis and decontamination. Candidates with an exceptional CV but shorter research career will also be considered;

-The candidate should have demonstrated capability of group leadership and project coordination;

-The candidate is expected to participate and have experience in strategic decisions, production of technical and scientific documentation and planning of projects;

-Applicants are also expected to have high quality publications in international journals and to be competitive in obtaining external research funding;

-Applicants with international mobility experience will be highly evaluated;

-Outstanding international exposure that warrants a solid international network for collaboration in competitive European funding;

- Proven experience in technology transfer, innovation driven, to sustain a close collaboration with industry.


Personal Skills

Creative thinking, interested in applied science, willing to work in a team, communication, organizational and reporting skills.



English is the working language of INL. Therefore, excellent communication skills in English are required.
