The Faculty of Applied Natural Sciences and Industrial Engineering of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of a

Professor (m/f)
in the field of “Energy technology – gas- and heat grid” for the winter semester 2017/2018 or later (BesGr.W2).

The aim of teaching and research at the European Campus Rottal-Inn, which belongs to the Technical University of Deggendorf, is to train students to design future-oriented and sustainable energy systems. Building on a deep comprehension of heat, fluid and energy technology the emphasis of the professorship lies in the field of decentralised energy production and distribution into gas and heat networks. We are looking for personalities who possess designated practical and theoretical knowledge and who have experience in the area of energy technology and energy supply systems with a focus on gas and heat.

Besides teaching, tasks include support in developing the European Campus Rottal-Inn, which is part of the Technical University of Deggendorf. Particularly in reference to sustainable energy production, including consideration of possible energy conversion technologies, intelligent and efficient energy distribution networks and their options for storage with a focus on gas and heat networks as subsystems constitute the emphasis of teaching and research.

Due to the international orientation of the Technical University, the course language is English. Best opportunities are provided to create innovative teaching and research structures under the roof of the European Campus Rottal-Inn. The tasks also include developing new laboratory facilities which enables modern practical-oriented training for students.

A university degree qualification in the field of energy and supply engineering (fluid and heat) or comparable degree qualification, and several years of professional experience in the area of modern energy distribution systems are required. The profile is supplemented by interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of relevant measurement and control engineering, intelligent decentralised energy systems and modern assessment and management systems in the energy sector. A close cooperation at the interface to electrical engineering is also desired. In addition, applicants are expected to hold courses in basic subjects in engineering. It is also desirable for applicants to have experience of raising third-party funds and managing R&D projects. The profile is completed by an extended length of time spent abroad. The position requires international consultation and coordination with European universities and corporations. Fluent English language skills sufficient for business dealings are required. German language skills are desired. The task areas also include involvement in the university’s self-government and in the concept and development stages of relevant degree courses.

Required Qualifications:
• University degree at PhD level
• Teaching experience and pedagogical skills
• Research experience in one or more of the above-mentioned fields
• Minimum of 5 years post-graduate professional activity in the development or application of academic knowledge. At least 3 years of this professional experience must have been obtained outside the university sector; although in particular cases professional activity may be accepted as sufficient if a substantial part within a minimum 5 year period was completed as a cooperation between the higher educational and the non-university sector.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 52 may be appointed as civil servants (“Beamte”). The Deggendorf Institute of Technology particularly welcomes and encourages applications from women. Furthermore, qualified applicants with disabilities will be favoured.

The European Campus Rottal-Inn is centrally located. It is situated in the charming town of Pfarrkirchen, part of Lower Bavaria in south-east Germany. The town has an idyllic location between the Danube and the Inn rivers and offers many recreational activities. Pfarrkirchen has superb school and educational opportunities. Attractive cities nearby include Salzburg, Regensburg and Passau, and the Munich International Airport is only 90 minutes by car. The proximity to Austria and the Alps places Pfarrkirchen at the heart of Europe.
