The Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics invites applications for the position Professor of Energy Systems (tenure track). The Professor of Energy Systems shall be responsible for building a team at the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics the goal of which is to carry out comprehensive analysis of the impact of the energy policy, regulations and electricity markets on energy systems, their efficiency and environmental impact. The Professor will be responsible for conducting research, supervising bachelor's, master's and doctoral students, applying for research funding, project management, coordinating the work of the research group and providing advice to various parties in his or her field of expertise. An important aspect is representation of the university in preparing national vision and strategic documents in the field of power engineering and providing knowledge-based input for the preparation of the documents.


The fields of research and development and studies are the following:

• global energy trade and electricity markets
• energy and environmental policy
• energy efficiency and energy chain economics
• energy security
• international cooperation, legislation and strategic documents in the field of power engineering.


Professor's responsibilities:

• management of projects in the field of energy regulations, policy, economics, electricity markets and service reliability;
• writing project applications to high-level competitions in his or her field of expertise;
• organisation of studies at the master's level in the subjects of energy economics, markets and policy (e.g. electricity market, energy policy, global energy trade);
• involving doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers in the research and development of the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics;
• providing advice to policy makers, representatives of the state and the society in the field of energy policy and regulations;
• establishing a competence centre in the field of energy economics at the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics;
• participation in the preparation of national strategic plans in the field of power engineering.


Requirements for the candidate:

• a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification in the field of electrical power engineering, energy technology, sustainable energy, energy management or a similar field;
• extensive, at least 10 years of proven experience in carrying out analysis of energy systems and project management in the field and excellent teaching skills;
• an excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken;
• supervision of at least 2 successfully defended doctoral theses;
• successful application or implementation as manager of competition-based funding in the amount of at least 200,000 €
• teaching experience in I, II and II level of higher education.


The following gives an advantage when applying for the position:

• competent in EU power engineering regulations and familiar with EU's long-term strategic plans and goals in the field of power engineering;
• the author or translator-editor of at least one textbook for higher education institutions or an equivalent teaching aid;
• a member of an international conference committee, participation in national activities related to organisation of research and education;
• active and outstanding spokesman in his/her field of expertise;
• initiative in finding funding and competing for it, including in cooperation with other universities;
• energy and willingness to work in a new and young research team;
• experience in carrying out long-term analysis of energy systems;
• private enterprise experience.


The Department offers:

The Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics of the School of Engineering is engaged in issues related to electricity production, consumption, transmission and quality as well as research on energy system planning. The Department has 80 employees in eight research groups. In the field of energy systems, the Department has long-term experience in optimisation and economics of energy systems. The Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics is looking for a professor with whom to cooperate to strengthen the energy economics research group.
