The aim of the position of Professor of Additive Manufacturing Technologies is to enhance the development of the field (photopolymerization processes, sheet lamination processes, processes based on extrusion or spraying of liquid substances, beam deposition processes, powder binding processes such as 3D printing, laser sintering) and to ensure offspring both, in the university and in the wider region.


The Professor of Additive Manufacturing Technologies is expected to lead an applied research topic, to develop cooperation (including international cooperation) with other research and development institutions and companies, to develop the material basis required for research and development, to ensure the offspring of academic staff, to publish the results of research and development, to work as an expert in his/her field, to ensure funding for research and development, to represent the Department at scientific conferences and seminars, to carry out studies and use up-to-date methodologies and educational technology in Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral levels, to organise, develop and be responsible for studies in the group of subjects in his/her field, to supervise PhD students.


Requirements for the candidate


- a PhD degree;
- scientific research and teaching experience in the field of additive manufacturing technologies;
- experience in international mobility (working abroad);
- teaching experience in all levels of higher education (Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral studies);
- publication of the results of research and development in recognised scientific journals;
- experience in successful supervision of PhD students;
- very good command of English.

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the School of Engineering creates a synergy between mechanical engineering, materials engineering, industrial design, robotics, transport technology, logistics, transport planning and supply chain management that promotes the development of the society and the state of Estonia. The Department includes five centres: Research Centre of Smart Industry and Robotics, Research Centre of Innovative Industrial Materials, Research Centre of Logistics and Transportation, Laboratory of Mechanical Testing and Metrology and Estonian Centre of Engineering Pedagogy.


The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering has research and development experience, also different equipment (plastic laser sintering unit EOS Formiga P100; metal laser sintering unit Realizer SLM50; Optical 3D scanners ATOS II, GOM; deformation measuring systems ARAMIS 2M, PONTOS 4M and different plastic 3D printers) in the field of Additive Manufacturing Technologies.


The Department promotes digitalisation of Estonian industry and develops its competitiveness through effective cooperation with universities/research institutions as well as with enterprises, professional associations, centres of competence (IMECC, ELIKO) and innovation centres. The Department is an active partner in the European Technology Platforms (sustainable manufacturing platform ManuFuture, Technology Platform for Advanced Engineering Materials and Technologies EuMaT) and of professional associations of the European Union and associations of Baltic Sea States (the Engineering Industries Association of Lithuania LINPRA, the Association of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries of Latvia MASOC, the innovation hub for digitalizing industry in Finland DIMECC) as well as of professional associations in Estonia (Federation of Estonian Engineering Industry, Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications) and unions (Estonian Design Centre, Association of Mechatronics).
