Tenure Track position in Micro and Nanosciences

 

We are seeking for an individual with apparent potential and/or demonstrated research excellence in the broad areas of multidisciplinary micro- and nanosciences, especially focusing on nanofabrication in the clean room environment. The successful candidate is expected to conduct an outstanding experimental research that complements the existing research efforts in Aalto University in these areas. Solid background in physics theory or additional experience in computer modelling that is closely related to experimental research is also appreciated. The call is primarily open on the Assistant Professor levels (in exceptional case also Associate Professor level is possible).

 

SCIENTIFIC ENVIRONMENT


The position will be located at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering, in the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The Department excels in the research of nanomaterials and nanostructures in various fields, such as nanoelectronics, photonics, quantum engineering and optoelectronics. The Department is located in Micronova Research Center, which is the leading clean room based research centre in the Nordic countries. Micronova belongs to the larger Otaniemi research infrastructure for micro- and nanotechnologies (Otanano). It offers a wide variety of fabrication processes and equipment for micro- and nanostructures. Otanano’s facilities cover a comprehensive range of imaging, and optical and electronic characterization equipment, including electron microscopy, nanomicroscopy and x-ray scattering and diffraction. The techniques used range from deposition of atomic layers and nanometer sized structures to devices that utilize structures up to hundreds of microns.

 

The Department’s research groups in Micronova are dedicated to leading edge research in nanoscience and microelectronics. The research fields include materials physics and energy harvesting type research directions, such as modern 2D materials, optoelectronics, photonics, nanoelectronics, quantum physics, solar and thermal energy and some emerging biomimetic nanosciences. The groups contribute to developing various nanofabrication methods utilizing the Micronova clean room. In addition, the department is active in the ongoing EU Graphene Flagship programme and many other international research collaborations.

 

REQUIREMENTS


We look for applicants who have:


• A doctorate in electrical engineering/physics/nanosciences or in a related field
• Potential to carry out research and attract research funding at the highest level
• Passion and ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• Ability to create high-level international contacts
• Skills to cooperate with other research groups using jointly operated infrastructure

SALARY


Aalto University follows the salary system of the Finnish universities, but applicants can also provide their own requests. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus.
