TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor in Mining Engineering

The Department of Mining and Materials Engineeringat McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty positionin Mining Engineering atthe rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The expected appointment start date isAugust 1, 2018 or earlier as circumstances permit.The salary will be commensurate with experience.

 

Applications are invited in the general area of advanced sustainable mining systems. In particular, qualified candidates working in one or more of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply. These are: mine waste management, mining automation & robotics, and rock fragmentation. Excellent candidates with research activities and interests in other advanced mining engineering areas may also be considered.

 

The Department is home to two programs – Mining Engineering and Materials Engineering. Miningishoused inthe ADAMSBuilding, and has excellent facilities with strong activities in several research areas; see Annual Report at: http://www.mcgill.ca/minmat/. The Department is committed to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate andgraduate levels, and values service to the Department, Faculty, and University, as well as service to the profession and society at large.The successful candidate will play a leading role in maintaining McGill’s international reputation of excellence in research, teaching and service.

 

Candidates must have a Ph.D., preferably with a first degree in mining engineering or a relatedfieldsuch as civil, environmental, or mechanical. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, orresearch potential as evidenced by publication in leading journals in the field, is indispensable.  Preferred qualifications include dedication to anenvironment that supports diversity of population and perspectives.As our students come froma wide range of disciplines, diverse cultures, and different backgrounds, we invite candidates to address in theirapplication their ability to teach, supervise, and mentor in this context.

 

Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is

required.
