Faculty Positions in Design, Manufacturing & Materials

The Center for Design, Manufacturing and Materials of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Moscow, Russia) invites applications for 8 faculty positions in the following areas:

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

1) Assistant Professor with 1-4 years’ experience in additive manufacturing or thermal spraying technology. The preferred starting date is August 2017.

2) Associate Professor with 4-6 years’ experience in additive manufacturing or thermal spraying technology. The preferred starting date is August 2017.

The Center seeks for exceptional candidates with knowledge in advanced manufacturing, optimization of the modern methods of additive manufacturing (3D printing of metals, ceramics, and polymers), laser sintering, materials characterization, or thermal spraying technology. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in manufacturing, materials science, mechanical engineering or a related area. The successful candidates will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-reviewed publications.

3) Assistant Professor with primary focus on robotics. The preferred starting date is August 2017.

The Center seeks for an exceptional candidate with knowledge in design and control of robots in manufacturing, soft robots, medical robots, and biocompatible robots, origami -based engineering, robots for space exploration contexts, advanced systems for robot fabrication, robotic sensing systems, micro-robots, and service robots. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in robotics, control systems, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related area. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-reviewed publications.

The Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory at CDMM consists of three main research facilities: Additive Manufacturing lab equipped with variety of 3D printing machines for metals, ceramics, and polymers, Thermal Spraying facility including variety of deposition technologies such as plasma spraying, HVOF, cold spraying, wire arc, and flame spraying, and Robotics lab equipped with several advanced multi axis robots. Several faculty, research scientists and graduate students at master's and doctoral levels are working on several projects in collaboration with industry.

PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT


4) Assistant Professor with 1-4 years’ experience with a start date of August 2017 or thereafter.                            

5) Associate Professor with 4-6 years’ experience with a start date of August 2017 or thereafter.


The Center seeks for exceptional candidates with expertise in product lifecycle management, from design and development of manufacturing processes and manufacturing systems, to service and disposal of manufactured products, and related areas. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent, in a field related to all areas listed above. Outstanding candidates with expertise in other areas related to design and manufacturing in our focus areas will be also considered. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-reviewed publications.


COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING



6) Assistant Professor with 1-4 years’ experience with a start date of August 2017 or thereafter.                                

7) Associate Professor with 4-6 years’ experience with a start date of August 2017 or thereafter.


The Center seeks for exceptional candidates with expertise in mathematical modeling, computational methods and software that are broadly applicable to solve specific problems of advanced manufacturing, including fast multi-scale modeling methods for multiphase systems, and specific applications/modules for PLM/CAD/CAE/CAM software systems. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent, in a field related to all areas listed above. The successful candidates will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-reviewed publications.


COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES



8) Full Professor - Head of the Composite Materials and Structures Laboratory commencing August 2017 or
thereafter.


The Center seeks for an exceptional candidate with skills to lead an active team of junior faculties, researchers, and graduate students to grow the laboratory to new levels of excellence. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the team, recruit and mentor outstanding new faculty, and researchers promote partnerships with industry, strengthen educational aspect in the area of composite materials and structures. The successful candidate should also be committed to leading major research activities in CDMM such as the Pultrusion and the Mechanical Testing facilities. Research areas for the Composite Materials and Structures Laboratory include modern methods for manufacturing and characterization of composite materials, including development of new structural concepts, manufacturing technologies and certification approaches into engineering, numerical simulation of composite structures and their stability and performance, with several researchers, postdocs, and graduate students involved in robust and successful interdisciplinary research in related areas.


The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology
 (Skoltech) is a unique English-speaking international graduate research university in Moscow, Russia.
