POSITION: Post-Doctoral Associate

 

STARTING DATE: January 1, 2018 (or later as negotiated)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position requires a Ph.D. graduate to perform develop and apply stochastic optimization algorithms related to integration of renewable energy in power systems.


Research: The individual will contribute to the Department of Energy supported project on co-optimization of transmission and distribution/microgrid systems to integrate demand response and DG with utility-scale renewable resources. S/he may also contribute to other related projects on optimization methods.


Publication and presentation: Prepare results for publication in a timely manner.Create presentations for lab meetings, conferences, and invited seminars. Provide twice monthly progress summaries to supervisor.


Training: Teach new lab members methods and techniques as requested by supervisor.


Anticipated Division of Time

 

Research: 85%

 

Publication and presentation: 10%

 

Training: 5%

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required:

 

PhD in mathematics, industrial engineering or operations research, with relevant experience in one or more of the following: (i) probability, (ii) stochastic optimization, and (iii) computer programming
Excellent communication skills including spoken/written English.


Demonstrated desire to publish in peer-reviewed journals.


Proven skills and ability to work independently while adhering to tight timelines.


This is a one year appointment which is renewable pending on available funding and successful performance.

 

Amount of job related experience: Less than three years postdoctoral training.

 

Supervision exercised

 

The postdoctoral associate may assist in advising beginning graduate students and undergraduate students or who are carrying out research for credit or summer internships.
