Lancaster University is a leading research focused higher education institution with an international reputation for high quality research and teaching. The Engineering Department is now looking to develop and strengthen its internationally regarded engineering research activity as part of on-going investment in research excellence. We are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering who will undertake research and teaching of internationally excellent standard within the mechanical engineering subject space, complementary to the existing research strengths of our Structures, Materials and Mechanics research group. Group research includes additive manufacturing, composite materials, computational mechanics and micro-fabrication, and is enhanced by strong collaborative networks within the renewable energy, nuclear, electronics and particle accelerator engineering sectors.

 

You will have a proven track record in journal publications and the ability to attract research grant funding. A commitment to high quality education is also essential to support our thriving undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in engineering. You will engage in teaching at all levels using relevant teaching methods including seminars, lectures, tutorials , labs etc. and undertake curriculum revision and development to the standard expected of a research-led University.

 

Engineering is a strategically important area of investment for Lancaster University, with an award winning new Engineering building opened in 2015 and recent complementary investment including creation of the new Materials Science Institute (http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/materials-science-institute/), which seeks to exploit innovative approaches to the design and manufacture of novel materials.
