Introduction

INL is seeking aTransmission Electron Microscopistto join the Nanocharacterization Facility to work primarily on the characterization of nanomaterials using conventional and aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy and scanning-transmission electron microscopy. The position and salary offered will be commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate.

 

Job Role & Key Responsibilities

As a Transmission Electron Microscopistyou will work together with INL researchers and external research partners and take on a key role within the following responsibilities:

  • Provide the daily maintenance of a FEI Titan 200 kV ChemiStem equipped with a probe corrector, EELS, EDS, Tomography and in-situ heating capabilities;
  • Provide the daily maintenance of a conventional JEOL 2100 TEM/STEM equipped with EDS and tomography;
  • Train new users in the preparation of samples, as well as use of the aforementioned instruments and support tools;
  • Develop the characterization of nanomaterials samples.

 

Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

 

  • PhD degree in Science or Engineering;
  • Experience with imaging of nanomaterials, including low-dose imaging, as well as 3D data acquisition and reconstruction;
  • Experience with TEM and STEMimaging techniques. These include, phase contrast TEM, diffraction contrast TEM, high angular annular dark field (HAADF) STEM and and bright-field (BF) STEM;
  • Experience with electron diffraction techniques, namely selected area diffraction and nanobeam diffraction;
  • Experience with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS);
  • Experience with Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS);
  • Experience with In-Situ TEM/STEM microscopy;
  • Experience with image processing and standard software for electron microscopy;
  • Experience with sample preparation of materials, such as metals, ceramics and electronic materials are a plus.

  • Eager to learn new concepts and to remain up-to-date on the pertaining fields;
  • Excellent communication skills and positive attitude toward contributing to scientific projects and working in an interdisciplinary environment.

 

Languages

 

  • English is the working language of INL. Upper advance level in oral and written English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another language is an advantage.
