Full-time Professor Position in Structural Engineering The Université catholique de Louvain

The Université catholique de Louvain invites applications for a full-time professor position in Structural Engineering

We seek talented individuals who will develop and drive a research program at the forefront of the structural engineering discipline, in connection with territory and large infrastructures, on topics involving for instance

-       structures under extreme conditions (e.g. earthquakes, explosions, flooding, land movements, non-deterministic modelling: stochastic or parametric models, uncertainty related to natural phenomena);

-       structures in their environmental context (e.g. adaptation to energy and water supply, to landscape dimensions);

-       smart structures (e.g.in situ structural monitoring, adaptativity, energy harvesting);

-       new structural concepts (e.g. deployable, nestable, and/or resilient structures);

The successful candidate will have teaching assignments in the field of civil engineering within the various degree programmes organised by the Louvain School of Engineering and by the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning (Bachelor and Master degrees in Engineering). In particular, he (she) will have a significant involvement in teaching structural engineering, involving territorial aspects.

Within the Sector of Sciences and Technologies (SST) of UCL, the position will attached to the Louvain School of Engineering (Ecole polytechnique de Louvain, EPL) for the education activity and to the Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering (iMMC) for the research activity.

UCL is a full university offering, in the context of the present position, the opportunity of cross-disciplinary research collaborations with the architectural engineers, with engineers of other disciplines (mechanics, materials, electromechanics, applied math, etc) and with the other members of the university community interested by the context of structures and territory.The Louvain school of engineering (EPL) and the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning are committed to excellence and innovation in education, witnessing constant growth of enrolments in the engineering, architectural engineering and doctoral degrees since 10 years. The Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering (iMMC) is anambitious, dynamic, highly collaborative, and inter-disciplinary research environment involving 27 faculty members and outstanding facilities, in particular in the field of civil engineering. (LOCI)The Louvain-la-Neuve city campus offers a unique modern living environment inside a naturally preserved neighbourhood, conveniently connected at the heart of Europe.
