Introduction

INL is seeking a highly-qualified, self-motivated Research Engineer to reinforce its cleanroom staff with a focus on the activities concerning Spintronics.

 Job Requirements & Key Responsibilities

As a Spintronics Service Engineer you will take on a key role within the following responsibilities:
  • Tool maintenance and service operations: maintenance, repair and service of the cleanroom tools used in the micro and nanofabrication of spintronic devices which include a NORDIKO 7500 Ion Milling Tool, a 3 target SINGULUS Timaris FTM sputtering tool used for a metal interconnect process and a 10 target SINGULUS Timaris MTM sputtering tool used for the deposition of MTJ stack; 
  • Solve common technical issues: repair/maintenance/replacement of vacuum components (pumps, pressure gauges, vacuum switches, mass flow controller, etc…), maintenance/repair of tool supply circuits (water, vacuum, and compressed air, power) and repair/maintenance of common tool components (robotic handling arms, PLC controllers, IO cards and power supplies, among others);
  • Interact with tool suppliers and support service engineers whenever an external intervention is required. Training will be provided either through internal resources or from the tool suppliers when possible;
  • Quality control monitoring: keep a long term continuous monitoring of system performance using standard metrology (uniformity, resistivity, deposition rates, etch rates, magnetic properties, etc…) and executing control runs to characterize process dispersions at device level (wafers with MTJ micron sized devices and wafers with nanometer sized devices);
  • MTJ microfabrication and nanofabrication: perform tasks related to the microfabrication and nanofabrication of MTJ devices in the framework of national, European and industrial projects and training of users in the operation of the tools under his responsibility.
 
Job Requirements

 Applicants should meet the following requirements:
  • A degree in Physics, Physical Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics, or other relevant subject is required;
  • Previous hands-on experience in the micro or nanofabrication of magnetic tunnel junction devices is desirable;
  • Previous hands-on experience in the operation of physical vapor deposition systems and/or ion milling systems is desirable.

  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills and clearly demonstrated communication skills (written and oral);
  • Team-work spirit;
  • “Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines;
  • Highly organised and dynamic.

Languages
  • English is the working language of INL. Upper advance level in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another language is an advantage.
