Special subject description


The subject of the announced postdoctoral service is in the field of chemical engineering with a particular focus on catalytic convergence in renewable fuels and chemicals. At the Department of Chemical Engineering, much work is being done in the area of lignin extraction and valorisation and the announced service will complement the work already done. The main part of work will be the hydration of lignin components in a hydrocarbon matrix. The work will include, but are not limited to, synthesis, measurement of activity and selectivity, as well as characterization of catalysts. Proprietary catalysts will be compared to commercial materials for the hydriding of lignin components. A lot of power will be devoted to creating catalysts with more open porous systems to handle larger lignin molecules and to understand the process at a molecular level.

 

Work tasks


The duties of postdoctoral staff include mainly research. Teaching may be included in the duties, but not more than one fifth of the working time. Within the framework of the employment, three weeks of higher education education will be offered.

 

The duties include:

 

  • Research in the subject area: hydration of lignin components, including
  1. Collaboration with the equation group at Lund University ( lignin.lu.se )
  2. Synthesis, activity / selectivity measurement, and characterization of catalysts
  3. Catalyst poisoning and lifetime studies
  • Teaching at the undergraduate level, advanced level and research level.
  • Supervision of graduate students and doctoral students.
  • Work on seeking external research funding.
  • Collaboration with a number of industry partners from the forest industry, the paper and pulp industry and refineries, as well as society at large.
  • Administration linked to the tasks above.

 

As the porous system is thought to be important, it is expected that parts of the research will focus on the analysis of small particles, complemented by other types of characterization, e.g. by synchrotron light radiation. In addition, the catalytic activity, selectivity and life of the materials will be determined.

 

Eligibility


Eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral degree is a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate in the field of employment and completed no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctorate may have been completed earlier.

 

Other requirements:

 

  • Very good knowledge of English, in spoken and written terms.
  • Doctorate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in catalyst synthesis, catalyst investigation and / or characterization.
  • Experience in catalytic converters for renewable components such as lignin or other renewable materials.

 

Basis of assessment


This is a qualification based primarily on research. The employment is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Particular importance will be attached to scientific competence in the subject field.

 

At the postdoctoral post, the following shall be the basis for assessment:

  • Good ability to develop and implement good quality research.
  • Educational ability.


Other qualifications:

 

  • Previous experience of work with synchrotron radiation.
  • Previous experience of work with synchronous radiation in catalyst research.

 

Consideration will also be given to good co-operative ability, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his experience and competence, is expected to supplement and strengthen ongoing research within the institution as well as contribute to its future development.

 

Terms


and Conditions The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and is full-time. The employment is limited by agreement, "Agreement on time-limited employment as postdoctoral", between social partners dated 2008-09-04 (Employers, OFRs, Saco-S and SEKO).
