Postdoctor in membrane technology for municipal wastewater treatment

Lund University of Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is ranked recurrently as one of the world's 100 leading universities. There are 42,000 students and 7,400 employees in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our quest to understand, explain and improve our world and human condition.

Lund University of Technology, LTH, is a technical faculty at Lund University with research of a high international class and major efforts in pedagogical diversity.

Special topic

description Sewage treatment is the third largest application area for membrane technology. The development of membrane technology in wastewater treatment is mainly driven by two trends: (1) reuse and resource recycling and (2) stricter emission requirements. In addition, there is an increasing need for processes with less energy consumption and reduced surface demand compared with the processes currently applied. It is expected that these trends will become even more important in the future and it will also be the role of membrane technology for the treatment of municipal wastewater.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Lund University has a long tradition of research in both membrane technology and municipal wastewater treatment. Research in both areas is applied by and often implemented in cooperation with municipal organizations and private companies. A large part of the research includes experimental studies in laboratory or pilot scale.

The postdoctoral position means that you focus on developing membrane applications for municipal sewage treatment, which enables future recycling and cleaner water recycling. Such applications may include direct membrane filtration, membrane bioreactors and process configurations for the removal of micro pollutants.

The duties as post doctor include mainly research. Teaching may be included in the duties, but not more than one fifth of the working time. Within the framework of the employment, three weeks of higher education education will be offered.

The duties also include:

  • Research in the subject area, ie membrane technology for municipal wastewater treatment.
  • Teaching at the undergraduate level, advanced level and research level.
  • Supervision of graduate students and doctoral students.
  • Work on seeking external research funding.
  • Collaboration with business and society.
  • Administration linked to the tasks above.

Eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral degree is a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate in the field of employment and completed no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctorate may have been completed earlier.

Other requirements:

  • Very good knowledge of English, in spoken and written terms.
  • Experience of membrane filtration of municipal wastewater in lab and pilot scale.
  • Driving license.

Basis of assessment

This is a qualification based primarily on research. The employment is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Particular importance will be attached to scientific competence in the subject field.

At the postdoctoral post, the following shall be the basis for assessment:

  • Good ability to develop and implement good quality research.
  • Educational ability.

Other qualifications:

  • Documented experience in research on membrane filtration of municipal wastewater.
  • Experience of recycling from wastewater.
  • Ability to formulate research ideas in the field of research.

Consideration will also be given to good co-operative ability, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his experience and competence, is expected to supplement and strengthen ongoing research within the institution as well as contribute to its future development.

A minor part of the work can include teaching as supervision of students or teaching in undergraduate education. Experiences and knowledge in teaching and supervision are therefore meritorious.

and Conditions The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and is full-time. The employment is limited by agreement, "Agreement on time-limited employment as postdoctoral", between social partners dated 2008-09-04 (Employers, OFRs, Saco-S and SEKO).

Instructions for application

application must be written in English. Report your credits according to LTH's academic merit portfolio, see link below. For this appointment, your application will also include a 1-page preliminary research plan describing your research ideas in the field and how they could be integrated with ongoing research into membrane technology and wastewater treatment at the department. Upload as PDF files in the recruitment system. Read more here:
