Doctoral student in Electrical Engineering with a focus on signal processing

Sort by publication: 2018-01-08

Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

PhD student in the field of Electrical Engineering with emphasis on signal processing at Avd for Signals and Systems, Department of Engineering Sciences, Ångström Laboratory with access 1 May 2018 or one agreement.

Background

Energy depletion from the environment has recently been set as an important paradigm for the purpose of operating wireless sensor networks in the future. Instead of using batteries or power from the mains, wireless sensors can use energy from, for example, solar cells, temperature gradients, vibrations or radio waves. More than 16 billion units are expected to be connected in 2022 and as a consequence, the energy issue of running these devices becomes central. Energy management is considered as a key technology for Internet-of-Things (IoT) and for wireless sensor networks, which includes both smart homes and smart factories.

The Signals and Systems department has a well-established research position in the field both nationally and internationally, with good contacts with industrial players such as ABB and Ericsson. For more information, see http://www.signal.uu.se/

Targeting

PhD student project will focus on research in signal processing for energy-scanning wireless sensor networks for various applications where modern methods of machine learning will be an important ingredient. The holders of a PhD student must mainly devote themselves to their own postgraduate education. Other services such as teaching may be included in the PhD student's appointment with a maximum of 20%. The PhD candidate has a duration equivalent to four years full-time studies.

Qualification

requirements Degree degrees from university or technical college, such as a master or civil engineer in electrical engineering, or equivalent, with basic knowledge of signals and systems and in signal processing, preferably with reference to wireless sensor networks. It is desirable, but not a must, that the candidate has basic knowledge of regulatory and / or wireless communication. The candidate is expected to cooperate and have a good knowledge of English in both speech and writing.

Application

application must include the following parts:

- CV with relevant academic and other qualifications

- Copy of diplomas and grades.
If the exam and grade excerpt are not written in Swedish or English, a translation into one of these languages must be attached.
