A one-year postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious experimental researcher to study the fundamentals of multiphase flow and transport in porous materials using X-ray imaging. The project aims to address the fundamental challenges and gaps in understanding the hydrodynamic transport in partially-saturated / two-phase porous materials applicable to many industrial and natural systems including contaminant transport in the vadose zone as well as chemical transport / mixing in enhanced oil recovery. You will be based in the University of Manchester and will closely collaborate with the University of Stuttgart and Diamond Light Source.


You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in porous media-related field such as hydrogeology, petroleum engineering, and civil engineering. The applicant should be familiar with fundamentals of multiphase flow and transport in porous materials. Expertise in microCT X-ray imaging for porous media applications, experimental data analysis and image processing, application of image processing software (e.g. Avizo, ImageJ) and excellent scientific writing are essential for this project. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and leading MSc, MEng students and collaboration with the project partners, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
