£26052 to £38183 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £29301 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance
Applications are invited for the above post within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. The Faculty has an excellent international reputation for high quality theoretical and experimental research funded by EU, EPSRC, TSB and manufacturing industry, including leading the EPSRC-funded Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub.


The person appointed will develop novel approaches to the structural modelling of aircraft and will be working at the forefront of aircraft modelling and virtual prototyping technologies. As a result, this position offers the opportunity for close collaboration with industrial partners (Airbus).


Candidates must have extensive experience of applying the ABAQUS finite element package to the analysis of composite material structures made from laminates and/or woven textile composites. The candidate will also have experience of scripting the ABAQUS/CAE system using the Python programming language. Candidates are expected to hold a good degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and to be qualified to PhD level or be close to completion, ideally in an area involving the finite element analysis of composite materials.


Candidates will need to be able to undertake research and perform communication activities (including the writing of reports and publications and the presentation of results at conferences and meetings) with a minimum of supervision.
