Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Mechatronics

The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a permanent 100 % position as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in mechatronics with a focus on Industrial IT, control systems and 3D sensor technology at the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is currently located at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

The successful candidate will be given assignments within external projects (equivalent to approximately 50 % until August 2019 in a defined project that has already started in cooperation with an industrial partner in the region). Besides this, the position will be given ordinary teaching tasks and other scientific assignments, se more below.

The position will be affiliated with the Department of Engineering Sciences within the Mechatronic Research group. We have a broad international cooperation and we have a close cooperation with industrial partners and public services in the region. This is a benefit both to teaching and research. The partners contribute with assignments, competence and resources.


Information about the position and requirements

The selected candidate is expected to work in an external project, either as a project team member or a project leader, equivalent to a 50% position until August 2019. Teaching duties will initially be within Industrial IT and programming, for example the course MAS411 Industrial IT.

We are offering studies within mechatronics on all levels from bachelor to PhD. Our new colleague is expected to contribute to our regular responsibilities within research and teaching.

The successful applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Mechatronics, or similar. PhD within the above-mentioned fields will be considered as an advantage.

Information about the appointment criteria for a position as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor can be found in the “Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts”.

Experience with the following technology is an advantage: structured PLC programming, practical experience with OPC, design of human-machine interface (HMI), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, practical experience with control of multi-axis machines and experience with 3D sensors (camera, LIDAR).

Documented ability to write scientific articles for publication and technical reports regarding external projects, as well as giving presentations and lectures, will all count as positive.

Successful candidates must have personal suitability such as teamwork skills, the ability to work in a structured manner, to be accurate and to focus on technical details, as well as be able to acquire knowledge of new technology fast.

Industrial experience and practice from academia will be consider as advantages.

Applicants must document their competence in relevant educational theory and practice developed through education, teaching experience and supervision. Applicants who lack formal teacher training qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications, or complete the University of Agder's Foundation Course in Education for University Lecturers within two years of accepting the appointment.

Good command in Norwegian and English is required, both orally and in writing.

Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and a demonstration of their teaching competence, usually in the form of a trial lecture. The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1011/1198 Associate Professor, gross salary per year NOK 517 700 – 650 200, code 1009 Assistant Professor, gross salary per year NOK 436 900 – 579 300. Higher salary grades may be offered to applicants with superior qualifications. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
