Job description


The researcher will be working on water interactions and advanced applications of Raman / IR spectroscopy on modified wood. The researcher is expected to work independently and develop his/her own ideas how to tackle our ambitious goals. The position is available from 01.09.2017 onwards. The position is situated on the main campus of Aalto University in Otaniemi within the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (




The eligible candidate should have:


  • PhD in suitable field, such as wood science/chemistry
  • Be highly motivated
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience in carrying out independent research and working in a team environment
  • Experience of writing high level scientific publications

Skills, knowledge and abilities in the following areas are highly desirable:

  • Experience in spectroscopical analyses, such as IR and Raman spectroscopies
  • Good understanding of wood structure and chemistry
  • Experience in raising competitive funding




The position will be initially filled for one year, and the extension is subject to advance of research. The salary is according to the salary system of Aalto University, depending on experience and qualifications.
