Announcement for the open position of Full Professorship

1. Position: One Professor in Disaster Prevention Engineering (permanent, monthly salary system).

2. Division: School of Environment and Society, Tokyo Institute of Technology

3. Research Field: Disaster prevention engineering focusing on hazard mitigation planning and damage
assessment for earthquake and tsunami making use of geographic information system.
Seismic hazard map. Earthquake engineering.

4. Requirements: Applicants should hold a Dr. Eng. or equivalent in Earthquake engineering or Building
structural engineering (or equivalent) and demonstrate a distinguished academic career,
including proof of original research in the research fields. Teaching duties are likely to
comprise the full range of Japanese earthquake and building engineering topics. The
principal language of instruction is Japanese.

5. Expected Start Date: Position becomes available on 1st April 2018 (at the beginning of the
Japanese academic year)

7. Documents to be submitted:

1) Curriculum vitae (since graduation from high school), full postal and email addresses, names of all
academic degrees with dates awarded, outline of professional career, record of membership and
activity in relevant academic societies.

2) Full and comprehensive list of reviewed published papers with each citation number and any other
relevant professional works, as educational and social activities, collaboration researches with
institutes other than yours, prizes/ awards etc.

3) Copies of five significant articles (in either Japanese or English, mark ‘*’ in the list defined in 2)).

4) List of acquisition of external competitive funds (last ten years, marked as a principal investigator and

5) Brief statement of research and teaching interests/ achievements, regarding the applicant’s past career
as well as his/ her future perspectives and goals (within 2 pages).

Japan and two out of Japan).
