The role will allow considerable freedom in defining how the project is conducted, depending on the successful applicant's skills and the activities of the other team members. There is provision for research and travel expenses related to the project and for team members to undertake training relevant to career development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing literature and surveying ongoing research projects

  • Designing and developing technologies for virtual reality

  • Writing up work for presentation and publication

  • Interacting with other team members

The successful candidate has (or is near obtaining) a PhD in computer science, engineering, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or a related area. Also essential is an ability to program virtual reality applications and to implement and/or apply machine learning, and to have a record of relevant high-quality well-written research publications. Desirable attributes include experience in designing and analysing empirical experiments with research participants, prior experience in software development and/or sensor systems, and qualifications or experience in skills useful to the group: statistics, visualisation, computer programming, mentoring.
