Our profile

The Department of Nonlinear Dynamics of Laser Fabrication (NLD) researches the fundamentals of optical technologies in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (eg structuring of glass displays or metallic screens), the Chair of Laser Technology (eg drilling of turbine components) , the chair for the technology of optical systems (eg designing of free-form optics) and the chair for additive manufacturing (eg simulation of the build-up process). 

With this structure a vertical systematics for the research of bases and for the development of applications is established. Our focus is on modeling, model reduction and simulation of laser manufacturing processes.

We do basic work describing physical processes and put the results into practice with industrial customers. We model high power beam sources and their application. The involved physical processes are described with thermodynamics, continuum physics and kinetics. In order to simulate the dynamic processes and the measurement data from the experimental diagnostics, mathematical methods for the analysis of the models, numerical methods for their simulation and visualization as well as algorithms for the evaluation of measurement data are developed.

These simulations have reached a level today that allows predictions about their behavior that are relevant for complex photonic systems. Critical to the successful use are the right choice of the underlying models, the inclusion of experimental knowledge and the reduction of numerical complexity to a manageable level.

your profile

You have successfully completed your studies in applied mathematics, physics, computer science or computational engineering science (master or equivalent). They are ready to familiarize themselves with application-oriented and industry-relevant issues and contribute to the solution of the tasks of other team members. You have extensive experience in the application of mathematical-physical as well as numerical methods and have already successfully implemented algorithms. They are accustomed to carry out the development, application and modification of these methods independently and pass on their experience successfully.

Your tasks

They contribute to the mathematical-physical modeling of laser manufacturing processes. They implement efficient numerical methods on multicore systems. You work independently or in teams and lead student assistants. You present your results in the form of scientific presentations to industrial customers. They dare to play a key role in the preparation and acquisition of publicly funded and bilateral projects with industrial clients.

Recruitment is in the employment relationship. 

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and limited to 1 year. An extension of the employment period within the scope of the Wissenschaftsarbeitszeitgesetz with the goal "completion of a graduation" by at least further 2 years is planned. 

This is a full time position. On request, a part-time employment can be made possible. 

A doctorate exists. 

The place is rated with EG 13 TV-L.
