Postdoctoral Research Associate in Energy Systems Transitions

Department of Engineering Science, Begbroke Science Park, Begbroke, Oxford

Grade 7: £31,604 - £35,550 p.a.

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Energy Systems Transitions to join the Energy and Power Group at the Department of Engineering Science (Begbroke Science Park). The post is funded by Innovate UK and is fixed-term for 18 months, with a possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will support work on an exciting project that looks at a large-scale pilot deployment of over 550 energy storage devices in the wild. This project also will contribute to the work of the larger programme of the Oxford Martin Programme in Integrating Renewable Energy. The main role of the University of Oxford in this project is to develop the trial methodology and to create suitable analytical and synthesis tools so as to best design and operate such hybrid energy storage systems.

The specific role of the successful candidate is to liaise with the partners to develop a model of the fleets of both the hot water tanks and batteries that comprise the system. The purpose of the model is to be able to identify potential revenue streams from providing grid services without compromising user satisfaction in the performance of the individual components (and the whole system).
