Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Turbine Seals

Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.


We are seeking a full-time post to join the Seals Research Group in the Oxford Thermofluids Institute at the Department of Engineering Science, Central Oxford. The post is funded by Rolls-Royce and the Aerospace Technology Institute and is fixed-term to 31 March 2020.

 

The post will develop advanced seals for gas turbines using both brush seals and dynamic seals in movable housings. You will be responsible for the development, operation and analysis of results from new test rigs working alongside a group of experienced DPhil students, PDRAs and technical staff. You will develop models of seal performance and validate these using experimental results and numerical simulation. Liaison with industrial partners and reporting of results through academic papers is a key responsibility of the post.

 

You should possess or be near to completing a PhD in gas turbine or sealing. You should have experience of setting up and running rotating experimental test rigs, analysing and reporting results is essential. Research is conducted in close collaboration with other members of the group, seal manufacturers and end users and a demonstrable ability to work in a team is essential.
