Research Assistant/Associate in terahertz spectroscopy of nanomaterials and devices (Fixed Term)

A position exists for a postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering (University of Cambridge) to work on a new project on terahertz spectroscopy of semiconductor nanostructures and devices. The role holder will join the Electronic and Photonic Nanomaterials group under the supervision of Dr Hannah Joyce.

The successful individual will join a new 5-year ERC-funded project (£1.3 million) that aims to engineer III-nitride nanowires and other nanomaterials through advanced spectroscopy. This project is targeting these nanomaterials towards a diverse range of applications including solar photoelectrochemical water splitting, solar cells, light emitting diodes and high frequency wireless communications.

The successful candidate will be engaged in establishing a new optical pump-terahertz probe spectroscopy system in Cambridge achieving broad bandwidth from 0.1 to 10 THz and with improved spatial resolution capabilities. This new lab is funded by the Winton Programme for the Physics of Sustainability, through collaboration with Dr Chiara Ciccarelli (Department of Physics). The successful candidate will take a leading role in performing terahertz spectroscopy measurements on a variety of nanomaterials including semiconductor nanowires and hybrid systems. The role holder will be encouraged to optimise and lead innovations in the spectroscopy system, to design and implement new nanomaterial-based devices, and to take an active role in the day-to-day supervision of students involved in the project.
