Job summary

 

Applications are invited to join the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London as a Research Associate to develop advanced redox flow batteries for electrochemical energy storage. The project will be led by Dr Qilei Song and funded by the EPSRC Centre for Advanced Materials for Integrated Energy Systems (CAM-IES) and UK Energy SUPERSTORE Hub.

 

The project will involve experimental work in the field of electrochemical energy storage with emphasis on developing redox flow batteries. The detailed research work will include design and fabrication of novel ion-selective membranes and redox active electrolytes, integrating the membranes with advanced redox flow battery chemistries and studying the electrochemical energy storage performance, as well as understanding the electrochemistry. The project will involve collaborations with the group of Prof. Neil McKeown at University of Edinburgh, the group of Prof. Clare Grey at University of Cambridge, research groups at Imperial College, as well as partners in the Energy Superstore research hub and CAM-IES research centre.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

You will join a highly interdisciplinary team working on a wide variety of exciting projects at the interface between materials chemistry, energy technology, and chemical engineering. Working closely with the project lead, you will report at meetings of the research group and attend conferences and workshops to promote your findings. You will also direct the work of small research teams including undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Essential requirements

 

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or other related area. A good knowledge of electrochemistry and battery materials is highly desirable. The succssful candidate should also be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work on interdisciplinary project and collaborate with partners.

The post is available immediately. This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months, starting from 1 May 2018. The post is based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
