Associate Professor in Water and Environmental Engineering (IV-112/18)


At the Institute of Ocean Work Operations and Construction Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is the vacant position as associate professor of water and environmental engineering. The institute is based in Ålesund, and the work tasks are to be performed there.


The institute conducts education and research in technology areas such as construction engineering, water and environmental engineering, ship design and product and system design, as well as nautics, shipping and shipping management and maritime logistics. It is currently employed approx. 80 people at the department.


The announced position will be attached to the bachelor program in water and environmental engineering. The employee will have special responsibility for teaching and research in the field of water and drainage.


 Work tasks will be:

• Teaching and supervision of bachelor students in selected subjects in water and environmental engineering 
• Maintenance and development of professional development projects in water and environmental engineering 
• Scheduling and running development projects in water and environmental engineering together with municipalities and industry 
• Development of teaching materials for bachelor education and further education.


It is noted that teaching at the bachelor program will take place in Norwegian.


The person employed in the position must be able to document comprehensive professional qualifications within essential parts of the subject area. He or she must also have documented scientific competence in one or more parts of the subject area with emphasis on the areas in which this post is particularly responsible. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to initiate and lead research and development work.


Qualification requirements for the position: 
• Doctoral degree in the field of water and environmental engineering or equivalent combined with professional competence towards practical use of the VA subject. 
• Experience from the VA field in municipal or private business 
• Good knowledge of professional challenges related to the design and / or operation of VA plants in Norwegian municipalities 
• Design expertise and good knowledge of professional digital tools (eg NOVAPOINT, SWMM, EPANET etc.) 
• Must master Norwegian or another Scandinavian language as a working and teaching language 
• Good ability for cooperation, networking, communication and dissemination


Emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills. The assessment will be based on documented pedagogical material, including educational education, the form of presentation in the scientific work, experience of PhD and master's thesis guidance and teaching as well as educational background of another kind. Quality and width will be considered.


Employees without formal university education skills who can not document equivalent qualifications are required to pass approved courses in university education within two years after accession. The university offers such courses.  


The most current applicants will normally be called for interview, and for the testing of educational skills, usually as a lecture.


The employee is responsible for the professional responsibility together with the department's other academic staff. The person further commits to participate in the implementation of the teaching plan according to the current curriculum, and in the work on further development of the subject area and the teaching plan, including further and further education. He / she is going to guide bachelor students in their field of study, and is also required to take part in administrative work.


The employee must comply with the decisions regarding change that the development of the subject entails and the organizational changes that decisions regarding the university's activities may entail.

Salary according to the state wage regulation, code 1011 associate professor. Normal salary is gross NOK 558 500 - 860 500 per. year. Remuneration is assessed based on qualifications and seniority. From this, 2% of statutory deposits are deducted from the Government Pension Fund.
