Research Assistant/Associate in Microsystems (MEMS) (Fixed Term)

 

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the design and characterisation of resonant and mode-localized MEMS accelerometers and the associated front-end electronics.

 

The post holder will be located in the Nanoscience Centre, West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

 

The key responsibilities and duties are to design and develop resonant and mode-localized MEMS accelerometers and the associated front-end electronics. The post-holder will work together with industrial partners to develop technical demonstrators and address issues relating to system-level integration and limited term field deployment.

 

The post-holder will contribute to peer-reviewed publications based on project results, technical and administrative reports reporting on project progress, delivering oral presentations at conferences, review meetings and other internal and external dissemination events and interfacing with industrial partners on field visits and technical demonstrations.

 

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a prior background in the fields of Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). The candidate will have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in an Engineering or relevant Applied Physics discipline and will have a track record of dissemination in related areas as indicated by the candidate's publication record in journals and international conferences in the MEMS field. Other required skills include: 


- Familiarity with computational tools such as MATLAB®, Finite Element Analysis tools for MEMS, Layout tools such as L-Edit and Cadence IC Design tools 
- Familiarity with electrical and optical methods to characterise MEMS devices 
- Familiarity with the design of resonant MEMS devices 
- Familiarity with design and build of board-level electronics

 

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant £25,728 - £30,688; Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833

 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
