This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team which is internationally renowned for research in Microwave Processing of materials. We are looking for a research fellow, associate or assistant whose expertise and skills lie in chemical/process engineering. This post is jointly advertised in collaboration with our industrial partner, Teledyne e2v though will predominantly be based within the Faculty of Engineering situated on the University Park campus in Nottingham. We are seeking applications from high quality people whose backgrounds, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team. The Faculty is committed to creating opportunities for people traditionally under-represented in Engineering

 

You will contribute to a highly multi-disciplinary team working to develop a platform technology microwave heating based technology with the potential to access a wide range of markets across sectors as diverse as steelmaking, nuclear, food, catalysis and energy. These applications have significant promise at small laboratory scale with over 2000 journal papers published annually by global researchers. However, few if any, practical applications of microwave technology exist at a commercial scale at temperatures higher than 200°C. You will be supported to work on the design and scale up of a platform technology to address the challenges of high temperature processing using microwaves including both pilot plant and industrial based work across a range of end users.

 

The post is based at The University of Nottingham, however, it is anticipated that you will work closely with our industrial partner Teledyne e2v. Te2v are global supplier of high performance microwave technology solutions with over 60 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of microwave devices and sub-systems which are used in demanding industrial applications such as radiotherapy machines, industrial heating, broadcasting and satellite communications.

 

We are seeking innovative thinkers from a broad range of experiences and backgrounds and significant training and support will be offered to help you develop any new skills which are required. You should be interested in working closely with industry as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team to deliver commercial solutions to industry. You should also have an enthusiasm to develop your expertise in materials processing and chemical engineering to produce high quality journal publications.

 

It is desirable if you have recently completed or due to complete a PhD or EngD. Equally graduates are encouraged to apply and if appropriate we will consider supporting you to undertake a part time PhD whilst working as a Research Associate.

 

This is a full time fixed term position. This post is available from 1st July 2018 and will be offered on a fixed-term basis for a period of 24 months. Applications for job share will also be considered.
