Fixed-Term Lecturer in Applied Thermofluids (Fixed Term)


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.


Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Fixed-Term Lectureship in Applied Thermofluids. The particular speciality of the appointee is not prescribed, but is likely to lie in the broad area of Applied Thermodynamics and/or Fluid Mechanics. This post is central to the Department's strategic research theme on 'Energy, Transport and the Urban Infrastructure'.


We are seeking applicants with a doctoral degree in Engineering or a related discipline, who will work with existing faculty in the Energy Group and add expertise to our current research activities. The successful candidate will be assigned to the Energy, Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery Division and will join the Energy Group at the Department of Engineering's main site on Trumpington Street.


The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and for developing a strong, externally sponsored research programme. For teaching, the primary requirement will be Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics courses throughout the four year Engineering Tripos. For research, the primary requirement will be to develop a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department's international reputation and top-rank research rating. Research activity is expected to account for 60% of time.


The successful candidate will take up their appointment by 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
