Introduction

INL is seeking a highly qualified Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the surface functionalization of advanced adsorbent nanomaterials within PT2020 research and innovation project "Prevenir o Biofouling em Sistemas de Membranas (pBio4.0)". The research work is to be conducted at the Nanochemistry Research Group of the Micro and Nanofabrication Department under the guidance of Dr. Yury Kolenko and Dr. Juliana Sousa. 

Job Role & Key Responsibilities

As a Research Fellow, the main focus of the research activity will be the surface functionalization of adsorbent nanomaterials with biocides to mitigate the impact of biofouling in membrane-based water treatment technology. The work will be supported by detailed studies of the surface structure and its stability.

Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science;
  • Experience in the surface functionalization of inorganic nanomaterials;
  • Solid knowledge of biocides and biofouling process;
  • Experience in characterization of the nanomaterials by XRD, SEM, FTIR, UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy among the others is of advantage;
  • Good knowledge of transfer capabilities.

Personal Skills

  • Strong drive to carry out research in the proposed topic;
  • Solid motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary project;
  • Good track record of disseminating research results.

Languages

English is the working language of INL. Therefore, excellent communication skills in English are required.
