Safe, environmentally friendly and cost-efficient rail vehicles, together with a sustainable and reliable railway infrastructure: VIRTUAL VEHICLE experts have been focusing on extensive research in this area for more than ten years.

The department “Rail Systems” dedicates its comprehensive system knowledge to actual challenges within the rail system. Being part or the european collaborative research initiative Shift2Rail our research is linked to the big players in railway industry.

To strengthen our team we are looking for experienced

Researcher (m/f) „Wheel Rail Tribology”
(Graz, Full-time, Ref. Nr. R_007)

Your duties and responsibilities:

▪ Participation in an international research project in the field of wheel-rail tribology
▪ Development of wheel-rail wear, thermal material phase change and damage models
▪ Planning of scaled and full scale experiments, participation at testing and analysis of experi-mental results
▪ Publication of work in meetings, symposia and journals

What we expect from you:

▪ Master degree in material science, mechanical engineering or physics
▪ Knowledge in material science and mechanical engineering
▪ Knowledge appreciated in tribology and physical-mathematical modeling
▪ Programming skills (preferably MATLAB® and/or Python)
▪ Ability to work in a team
▪ Good language skills: German and English
