Applications are invited for an Analytical Technician within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast. This post is a full-time post for a fixed two years. The successful candidate will join our technical team based in our Analytical Services and Environmental Projects (ASEP) Unit in providing support for Teaching and Research to our School in the David Keir Building.

 

This temporary post is available for 2 years.

 

The successful candidate will provide an Analytical Service provision from sample submission to reporting, diagnosing and repairing faults in Scientific equipment including for example Differential Scanning Calorimeters, Thermo Gravimetric Analysers, Total Organic Nitrogen and Total Organic Carbon analysers. This will require liaising with academic staff, students and equipment manufacturers.  Other main aspects of the role will include portable appliance safety testing of the specialist laboratory equipment used within the labs as well as other short term projects.

 

Applicants should hold either OND/ONC or NVQ3 in a Chemistry discipline together with 3 years relevant working experience in a relevant role and have specialist knowledge of DSC, TGA and ICP analysis. Applicants will be expected to have and be able to demonstrate a well-developed understanding of Health and Safety Issues

 

Anticipated interview date: Thursday 22 November 2018 and Friday 7 December 2018

 

Salary scale:   £24,028 - £27,831 per annum (potential to progress to £29,514 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
