Description:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering invites applications for a tenure stream appointment in Materials and Manufacturing at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2019, or shortly thereafter.

 

The successful candidate will show leadership, innovation and excellence in research and teaching in the area of materials and manufacturing. They are expected to have extensive experience in manufacturing or materials science based research focusing on manufacturing technologies, experimental and computational facets of materials design, and metallic/non-metallic materials for new applications.

 

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, digital or additive manufacturing processes, scalable micro/nano-manufacturing, bio-manufacturing, formative or hybrid printing, manufacturing data analytics and re-manufacturing, optimization and diagnostics of manufacturing processes, sustainable design of manufacturing processes.

 

Applicants are expected to have a PhD or equivalent in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field, by the time of appointment. Postdoctoral or industrial experience is an asset.

 

Successful candidates will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level, to initiate and lead an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program, and to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Excellence in research is evidenced primarily by publications or forthcoming publications in leading journals or conferences in the field, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by strong communication skills, a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, including a compelling statement of teaching philosophy highlighting areas of interest and accomplishments, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of recommendation.

 

Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is strongly desirable.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
