Introduction

INL is seeking a Scalable Learning Steward (SLS)  who will be responsible for setting up the INL Scale Learning Office with the aim  of fostering the development of INL as a learning organization, and contribute to a continuous engagement with an enlarged set of stakeholders common to the digital networked age and global economy. The SLS will assure that INL is learning collectively with its network actors so that the skills, experience and knowledge that the various collaborations require are identified, developed, and in place. The SLS is expected to be a key driver to building up excellence as a learning organization, to identify key strengths and emerging opportunities, to sharpen and display areas of excellence, and to enter new forms of partnerships. This newly defined SLS role will hold the keys to a more engaged organization, and in helping more of the organization to reach purpose in their roles.

Job Requirements & Key Responsibilities

SLS will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:  

  • Steward the development of INL as a learning organization;
  • Assure that learning is an integral part of the organization;
  • Develop and implement sustainability and revenue models in support of INL as a learning organization;
  • Develop the organization’s educational process and the INL Learning Model;
  • Take on an active role in activities related to Communicating Science and INL outreach activities;
  • Promote knowledge management;
  • Implement effective training strategies;
  • Direct change management;
  • Define and implement a regular performance review based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The SLS will also be responsible for establishing activities that will foster leadership and excellence in three interconnected areas:

1) Internal Professional Development: To assure that the INL community improves their knowledge and will be empowered to identify, tackle and quickly resolve workplace-based problems; building up group dynamics; enhance cooperation; initiate change; nurture and build a culture inherent to Learning Organisations; build up the INL Learning Model that establishes advanced learning as the new normal at INL. This are includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Ensure that employees constantly learn new ideas in the process of working and utilize these to the benefit of the organization;
  • Review of all education and training offers;
  • Ensure that learning sessions are engaging and memorable;
  • Communicate daily with members of staff on progress and further needs;
  • Collaborate at macro-level HR processes;
  • Assist with learning and development, in-house or with external stakeholders.

2) External Commissioned Education Offerings: The development of state-of-the-art and advanced commissioned education offerings making use of science driven and research-based methods. Commissioned Education Offerings should be developed in areas of interest to INL, such as subjects concerned with how exponential technologies affect society/enterprises, and should be build up in partnerships with global leading education providers to maximise uptake and impact. This area includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Establish, direct, and maintain learning and knowledge management systems that ensure effective learning outcome and allow the respective stakeholders to be informed and to connect;
  • Oversee the learning and knowledge management sections of INL’s website;
  • Foster a culture and framework of innovation and excellence;
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the different concerned budgets;
  • Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies.

3) Communicating Science and Outreach activities: to relate the learning and knowledge building in connection with Society relying partly on the wider perspectives contained within the newly articulated Science Capital perspectives (a conceptual tool related to individual’s exposure and knowledge of science). One objective is to seek and realize synergies between the learning and knowledge building dimensions in Communicating Science and outreach activities and the Internal Professional Development and External Commissioned Education Offerings. The SLS will be expected to take on an active role in INL wide initiatives that have a clear relation to Communicating Science and Outreach activities.

Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field of the Social Sciences;
  • Background in Pedagogical education;
  • At least 15 years of progressive global experience in the development and execution of adult and advanced education offers, including in the commissioned for-profit higher education industry;

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in the management of global and distributed teams;

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in Communicating Science and Outreach activities.
  • Experience from work with new issues/questions, e.g. Wicked problems
  • In depth experience with contract negotiations, partnership building and outreach activities, accreditation and certification, evaluations, quality assurance, standards, and processes.

Personal skills

  • Data driven systems thinker who can generate and execute ideas at strategic and tactical levels;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand the big picture;

  • Thrives in a fast‐paced environment, integrating disparate activities, new technologies, and agendas while adhering to deadlines and budgets;
  • Instinctive collaborator with strong management experience who values teamwork and the input of others;
  • Creative visionary with a passion for learning and the ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts;
  • An eye on future trends and/or can predict them;
  • Can drive employees to accept and embrace new learning methods and technologies;
  • Can break down existing silos to foster an atmosphere of organisation-wide cooperation and collaboration through learning.

Languages

  • English is the working language of INL. Upper advance level in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another language is an advantage.
