Faculty Job Description

Applications are invited from outstanding individuals for a grant tenure position at the rank of Associate Professor in the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia. The candidate will be expected to lead interdisciplinary research in the field of innovation strategy and organizational change in the mineral resource sector, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students at the Masters and PhD levels and provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.


Candidates with a doctoral degree in Management or a related field, complemented with one or more degrees in science and/or engineering are encouraged to apply. Relevant academic or industrial experience, a superior research record that indicates significant progress in the field mentioned above, and strong communication skills are all highly desirable. Proven capacity to understand the science and technology base within the mining industry will also be required.


The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain a distinguished record of scholarship and industrial recognition; have advanced skills in undergraduate or graduate teaching; and be able to secure research funding from industry and government sources. Demonstrated leadership of inter-disciplinary projects involving economics, science, engineering, business and public policy is required.


The Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering is a large industry-linked mining school with a global perspective. It takes pride in the quality of its student relations and teaching, based on a strong association with industry. The development of advanced technologies for mineral and metal extraction and research into future business models for the mineral resource industry are active areas of research in the department.
