The Opportunity 

We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Research Fellow to join our team and help develop a comprehensive program in integrated computational materials engineering. This project will focus on the design of alloys for powder injection moulding and binder-jet additive manufacturing using reduced order, meta-models that incorporate a complete spectrum of process conditions to support engineering decision making.  The project will use genetic algorithms to find global optima coupled to sintering models to simulate the development of microstructure and constitutive models for the development of properties.  The expected outcomes include an integrated computational model for the design of alloys for sintering and prospective stainless steel compositions for industrial applications.


The Role 

You will conduct independent research leading to the preparation and publication of research outcomes in journals and conferences. Located within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering, you will play an active role of the department by collaborating with other researchers across the department and University. 


Your Profile

The position is suitable for a recent PhD graduate. We are interested in hearing from candidates with experience in any field of modelling and simulation for materials design. Experience in meta-models, phase field modelling, data science and/or modelling of sintering will be an advantage.


What you’ll need

  • A PhD in materials engineering, or a closely related discipline.

  • Experience in computational materials engineering, particularly as applied to materials design.

  • A record of high quality research as evidenced by publications in tier one journals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated by presentation of research results at conferences, internal forums and published papers.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience in contributing to teaching and learning programs is highly desirable.
