Assistant Professor in applied and computational mechanics University of Waterloo, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Canada

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in applied and computational mechanics with application areas such as: (1) shape active structures, (2) cable and membrane structures, (3) deployable structures, (4) tensegrity structures, (5) adaptive structures, (6) biomimetic structural elements, materials, and systems, or (7) shell structures. The successful candidate’s published research should demonstrate a strong background in nonlinear and computational mechanics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research demonstrates applications and experimental validation of computational models. The estimated start date for this position is September 1, 2019. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor will be considered.


Applicants must demonstrate potential or have proven ability to develop an internationally recognized research program, must have excellent communication skills, and must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.


The successful applicant must have a civil engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent, and a PhD in engineering. Applicants are expected to have engineering licenses for practice in Canada or the ability to apply for an engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 5 years. Based on qualifications and rank, the salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
