The University of Manchester is looking for a Research Associate to join the UK water resource planning team, and contribute to a range of these projects. While initially for a period of 12 months, this position has potential to be extended subject to funding.

UK water supplies are managed and owned by regional water utilities regulated by financial and environmental regulators. Statutorily each water company must plan future resource development and infrastructure investments. However, as available water resources decrease, companies are increasingly looking to each other as sources of more cost-effective supplies, or for supplies during droughts. This has increased the importance of regional water planning groups, including Water Resources of the South East (the 7 water companies around London) and Water Resources East (the 4 water companies in East Anglia). Also, a new national model is being built to help coordinate water resources modelling between regional groups and make broad recommendations on vulnerabilities and possible solutions. University of Manchester (UM) researchers built or contributed to the building of the mathematical models used by these efforts.
