Applications are invited for the above position with an immediate start to:

  • Conduct and disseminate policy-relevant interdisciplinary research on aviation in the context of the Paris Climate Agreement
  • Publish peer-reviewed articles in leading journals
  • Drive the development of new research proposals in relevant areas
  • Conduct and administer knowledge exchange and outreach activities
  • Co-supervise PhD researchers in related areas
  • Support the submission of an impact case-study for REF2021


The post requires an interdisciplinary researcher with a base in the physical sciences who is experienced in conducting policy-relevant climate change research. This role will be responsible for driving the Tyndall Centre’s aviation-focused research activities, working with colleagues to develop a portfolio of funded research activity in this field.


It is expected that the post holder will have a strong publishing track record for their career stage, demonstrable experience in shaping research funding proposals, an aptitude for conducting knowledge exchange and some PhD supervisory experience. The post holder will work closely with the recently appointed Head of School of Engineering who maintains a strong research base within the Tyndall Centre.


The Tyndall Centre conducts interdisciplinary research in the field of energy, decarbonisation and climate change mitigation.


This post will provide the researcher with a direct link to the wider Tyndall Centre Community, the various Tyndall projects, and expect them to be part of a supportive vibrant interdisciplinary team within the University of Manchester.


The role would suit an experienced interdisciplinary post-doc with a physical sciences or engineering background, able to conduct policy-relevant interdisciplinary research and demonstrate excellent communication and engagement skills.
