The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Architectural Engineering with an estimated start date of September 1, 2019. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor will be considered.




Applicants should have research expertise in building science or building systems design. Desirable applicants may be conducting specialized, fundamental research in related areas, such as thermodynamics, acoustics, ergonomics, or air quality, or more generalized, applied research in areas such as low carbon building envelopes and systems, building information modelling (BIM), optimization of energy usage in building applications, or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.


Applicants must demonstrate potential or have proven ability to develop an internationally recognized research program, must have excellent communication skills, and must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. An ability to teach architectural engineering courses in building science or building systems design is required. The ideal applicant should expect to work with public and private sector research partners, and generate collaborative research funding to lead a successful research program. Previous industry or design experience is an asset.




The successful applicants must have civil or architectural engineering undergraduate degrees or equivalent, and a PhD in engineering. Applicants are expected to have engineering licenses for practice in Canada or the ability to apply for an engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 5 years. Based on qualifications and rank, the salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
