The 3mE Faculty trains committed engineering students, PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers in groundbreaking scientific research in the fields of mechanical, maritime and materials engineering. 3mE is the epitome of a dynamic, innovative faculty, with a European scope that contributes demonstrable economic and social benefits.

The department Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC) of the faculty 3mE, coordinates the education and research activities in systems and control at Delft University of Technology. The Centers' research mission is to conduct fundamental research in systems dynamics and control, involving dynamic modelling, advanced control theory, optimisation and signal analysis. About us


The complexity of human engineered systems is reaching such high levels that traditional, manual based methods for analysing and controlling them are no longer applicable. This position aims to tackle the challenge of learning to control and/or monitor such complex systems from data. Scientific goals include determining how self-organization, adaptation/evolution, and fragility/resilience can be used to understand, monitor and control such complex systems. This fundamental framework makes it possible to develop control and monitoring systems for demanding industrial application fields such as large-scale mechatronic systems, dynamic positioning systems, ocean and wind energy harvesting systems.

This position is located in the Data Driven Control section within DCSC. Within this section of DCSC the focus is on the analysis and decision making for large-scale (in size) multi-disciplinary dynamical systems. It addresses the question about what model complexity is necessary for all individual system components in order to use data-driven models for reliable and robust model based diagnostics, parameter estimation, monitoring and control.

 

Cooperation with other members of the scientific staff and establishing relationships with practitioners are important. Moreover, you will contribute to teaching at the MSc and BSc levels. Every new Assistant Professor will be given a Tenure Track position. This process leading up to a permanent appointment with the prospect of becoming an Associate or full Professor, offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path. Required

 


The successful candidate has the following qualifications:

An Ph.D. degree in systems and control, applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.

Fundamental knowledge of control systems theory and/or system identification.

The capacity to communicate effectively with peers, students and stakeholders in the application field

An excellent track record in scientific publications, acquisition and management of externally funded research projects, and a clear view on required future developments, aiming at a high degree of sustainability in the application field, and have experience as a post-doctoral researcher.

Fluency in English and the willingness to learn Dutch within three years.

An open personality and good communication skills in written and spoken English.

 

Terms and Conditions


A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be made by the fifth year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position.

Salary - ranging from 3.637 to 5.656 for Assistant Professor and from 5.039 to 6.738 for Associate Professor gross a month (full time based) - and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

If you have less than five years of experience and do not yet have your teaching certificate, we allow you up to three years to obtain this.
