The Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Applied Engineering are seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy for

Doctoral scholarship holders in the areas of electron tomography and electrocatalysis

 

The vacancy is situated within the research project entitled Innovative three-dimensional electron microscopy to boost the catalytic activity of core-shell nanostructures. In this project, the combination of advanced aberration corrected electron microscopy and novel three-dimensional reconstruction algorithms will be used as a ground-breaking new approach to quantify the structure AND the composition for highly promising nanomaterials that can be used for electrocatalysis. This PhD is a collaboration between the research group Electron Microscopy for Material Science (EMAT) (https://www.emat.uantwerpen.be) and the research group Applied Electrochemistry & Catalysis (ELCAT) (https://www.uantwerpen.be/elcat).

 

Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of Physics or Applied Engineering.

  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment.

  • You work at the interplay of material sciences and engineering.

  • You apply for external PhD grants in the course of the project (VLAIO, FWO).

 

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in a relevant field (physics, engineering, …).

  • You can submit outstanding academic results.

  • Students in the final year of their degree can also apply.

  • You are motivated and accept the challenge to obtain a PhD in sciences and/or engineering.

  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.

  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.

 

We offer

  • a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year, renewable for after positive evaluation;

  • the scholarship can start immediately;

  • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.373,36 - € 2.516,73;

  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
