Applications are sought for a prestigious 3-year fellowship within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham.  The Pope Fellowship was endowed by Sir Joseph Pope, formerly Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham, and aims to support seminal work in the general field of Mechanical Engineering. Candidates for this position should hold an excellent first degree in mechanical engineering from a reputable University, a PhD in an aspect of Mechanical Engineering and should ideally have had at least two years of post-doctoral experience in the same field with a track record of high quality publication. Experience of wear, fretting and contact fatigue disciplines would be advantageous.  The candidate should have an excellent background in experimental testing and the processing and interpretation of experimental results. The development of novel material testing apparatus will be a significant element of this new role. He/she should also be comfortable with advanced numerical modelling, having experience of finite element analysis and other analytical methods for the stress analysis of contact problems. Excellent communication skills are imperative. As this is a transitional post, the candidate should be able to exhibit evidence of excellent teaching within the Mechanical Engineering discipline.

The successful applicant will sit within the Gas Turbines and Transmissions Research Centre (G2TRC) in the Faculty of Engineering and will be expected to interact strongly with the University’s major initiative on “Propulsion Futures” – becoming the main mechanical engineering expert informing that initiative.
