Position Description

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a Lecturer Part-Time faculty position.  This is a non-tenure eligible position.  The length of the appointment is 3 months to teach one section of Geography of the Physical Environment (TGEOS 243) during the winter quarter (January-March 2020).  The appointment is contingent upon adequate enrollment. This course discusses the physical and chemical processes that lead to Earth's diverse, dynamic landscapes. It also introduces a geographic perspective on topics including climate and climate change, plate tectonics, mountain building, soils, hydrology, and coastlines, with a focus on the relationship between natural landscapes and habitats of living things, including humans.


The Tacoma campus of the University of Washington was founded in 1990 with an interdisciplinary approach at its foundation. It has evolved into a thriving downtown campus that serves students of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds in the South Puget Sound. Faculty have access to the resources of the University of Washington, a major research university, including an extensive library system, but work and teach within a small campus setting. Our campus provides a supportive environment for the development of creative teaching, research and community collaborations. Candidates should have a Master's degree or higher in a relevant geoscience field and/or 2 or more years’ experience teaching similar courses at the college/university level. The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with the ability to engage with students from a culturally diverse population.
