Description:

 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking an Instructor / Lecturer to meet the rapidly growing instructional needs of our programs. Reporting to the Chair, this role will be responsible for the instruction of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as the continuous improvement and continued development of undergraduate and graduate courses.

 

Required

 

Candidates must either hold a PhD or be in the process of being granted a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate is expected to become a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta in due course. Candidates must have the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and be an active citizen of the University. Knowledge and experience in all areas of Mechanical Engineering will be considered, with special consideration for experience in engineering design, solid mechanics, and mechanics of materials. Proven interest and ability in teaching will be considered a requirement for all applications. Leadership and communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to network with the professional community in Edmonton will be an asset.

 

Position

 

This position will be a 3-year term appointment under the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) collective agreement and comes will a comprehensive benefits package which can be view at: Faculty & Staff Benefits.

With over 950 undergraduate and 300 graduate students, 55 faculty, and 25 technical and support staff, the Department of Mechanical Engineering requires the successful candidate to demonstrate the ability to build meaningful relationships with multiple stakeholders in a complex and rapidly evolving space.
