PhD position: High-Precision Farming Tools

The Chair of Agrimechatronics at Technical University of Munich invites for applications for the position of a Research Assistant (Doctoral Student) for the project about Digital farming technology. M/F/D. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference. TUM strives to raise the proportion of women in its workforce and explicitly encourages application from qualified women. The machines for field work to supply feed and distribute manure and slurry are based on tractors and connected trailer-type implements. The tractor and implement are connected to each other electronically using ISO 11783 standard. The standard provides an interface to log process data in real time, by using ISOBUS Task Controller. In this project, we use commercial tractors and commercial implements. The research questions are related to precision and accuracy of the control systems, to control application rate. The aim is to study also the protocol and propose improvements for the international standardization. One of the tasks is to make a prototype of a data collection system to be installed in tractor and connect that also to external precision GPS receivers. About us The Chair of Agrimechatronics (Prof. Oksanen) studies especially Intelligent Machines for Agriculture. The research themes include topics like tractors and other agricultural vehicles and robots, tractor-implement automation, communication technologies for vehicles, navigation, guidance and planning, positioning systems, model-based control of mechatronic systems, drives and power systems, and robotic implements. We offer As a part of our international team in northern Munich area, you will have an excellent opportunity to develop yourself as a team player as well as an independent researcher. Our work is interdisciplinary, international, and in-depth but also practical.
